Chatham Historic Dockyard Trust has announced that its Chair, Admiral Sir Trevor Soar KCB OBE DL, will step down in November 2026 after completing ten years in post.
Since his appointment in 2016, Sir Trevor has guided the award-winning charity through a decade of transformation. He has overseen major projects including the completion of the Fitted Rigging House, steering the Trust to financial independence, strengthening the Board of Trustees and the successful navigation of the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic. He also played a key role in appointing a new Chief Executive and establishing a strong leadership team.
In recent years the Trust has marked important milestones and built its reputation as a leader in the heritage sector. The 40th anniversary of the Dockyard’s closure highlighted how far the charity has come and the year-long programme culminated in the launch of the Trust’s first 10-year strategy. With this framework in place, strong leadership and the support of a dedicated community of staff, volunteers and partners, the Trust is well positioned to deliver on its ambition to be a world-leading maritime heritage destination.
His relief will be Vice Admiral Sir Martin Connell KCB CBE a former Second Sea Lord and Deputy Chief of Naval Staff from 2022 to 2025.
