HMS Carysfort ship’s bell

Was sold at auction in Boston USA on 22 November 2025. I watched the auction online and made a couple of bids. It was sold for US$950 (approx (£720). However once sales tax of 25% and Boston MA State tax of 6.25% are factored in this brings the total to just under £1000. Shipping, handling and insurance have also to be added. I contacted the auctioneers before the sale to tell them about our affiliation with the bell but received no response except to say I was registered to bid and given a paddle number. Have contacted them again asking if they will pass my contact details on to the successful bidder and again included our connection to the bell. They promised to do this but have heard nothing from the buyer to date. I’m consoling myself with the fact that the bell was in pretty poor condition compared to others in the sale and may have needed some restoration. However, it would have been a great acquisition for our Association after copious amounts of bluebell and elbow grease had been applied to it.
